Findings
Alleged Victim (AV) relies on the facility to administer his/her medication. AV has a history of swelling in the legs and has reported pain due to this swelling. AV receives a PRN pain medication to aid in pain management. The facility had a computer system switchover as a result of ownership change and so staff were unable to access weights for multiple days for AV. Staff were unable to confirm if AV had received his/her proper medication or not, and the facility did not have access to and was unable to provide request for MAR documentation. As a result of this, AV’s legs swelled up and required a doctor’s visit. The facility failed to provide a safe medication administration system, which is a violation of resident rights, is neglect of care and constitutes abuse.
