Findings: Alleged Victim (AV) had an ordered medication protocol for bowel care. AV’s ordered protocol stated that after two (2) days of no bowel movement, a medication to treat constipation was to be given twice daily. If still no bowel movement after three (3) complete days, then a laxative was to be given on the morning of the 4th day. If after twelve (12) hours with no results, a suppository was to be given. Facility records indicate that AV was not given the constipation medication or the suppository, but only the laxative, which was not successful, resulting in AV not having a bowel movement for approximately five (5) consecutive days in the month of April 2019. The facility failed to follow AV’s physician’s orders for bowel care, which is a violation of resident rights, is considered neglect of care and constitutes abuse.
Sanction: RCFCP20-00361 $1500.00 fine assessed
