Findings: The Alleged Victim (AV) relies on the facility for his/her care. AV’s care plan states regular diet. AV has a history of taking large bites and choking. The facility knows AV is supposed to eat a mechanical soft diet and have 1:1 supervision during meals. On or about 03/04/2021 Alleged Perpetrator #2 (AP2) served AV another resident’s regular plate diet and AV choked on a large bite of food. AV required the Heimlich to dislodge the food. The facility failed to appropriately care plan and implement reasonable interventions to address AV’s eating habits and prevent choking, which is a violation of resident rights, is considered neglect of care and constitutes abuse.
Sanction: RCFCP21-03582 $250.00 fine assessed
