- Findings
- The facility failed to provide appropriate services according to the Alleged Victim (AV)’s needs and ensure physician orders were followed sufficiently resulting in AV significant weight loss. AV Service plan indicates AV doesn't eat independently, staff are to escort AV to meals as well as provide snacks and drink twice a day to assist with hydration and nutrition, cut food and cue AV to eat, staff should attempt to give AV bites of food, Encourage AV to sit with specific residents that AV is most likely to stay at the table and eat with. If AV gets up from eating, staff are to encourage AV to return to the meal. If AV does not eat a meal, staff should provide a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to AV. Staff should place sandwich in AV's hand and cue AV to eat. Staff are to assist with feeding AV for every meal. AV’s weight continued to decrease, facility received physician orders for enhanced nutritional shakes with staff observation to ensure consumption and ordered staff should place themselves at a lower level in front of AV when feeding AV as AV is likely to be more receptive to feeding in that manner. In a span of four months, AV lost a total of 57.6 pounds. There is sufficient information to indicates that the facility failed to ensure physician orders were followed. The facility's failure is a violation of resident rights, is considered neglect of care and constitutes abuse.
