Findings
On June 22, 2016, Compliance Specialist (CS) interviewed Staff 1 who stated the facility cannot please everyone with food. Staff 1 stated the dining room has a server and two care givers who assist with serving food. Staff 1 cautioned that some residents are seated early before meal service begins and this contributes to perception of long wait times.On June 22, 2016, CS interviewed Resident 1 who indicated the food is not too bad; sometimes it is cold.On June 22, 2016, CS interviewed Staff 3 who stated the facility just got a new chef a few weeks ago and complaints have decreased since then. Staff 3 also stated he/she has received complaints on the wait times for food service however, Staff 3 stated wait times have not been excessive.On June 22, 2016, CS interviewed Resident 2 who stated he/she is pleased with the food and dining room service.On June 22, 2016, CS interviewed Resident 3 who indicated the facility sticks to the menu food items most of the time. Resident 3 complained that the alternative menu never changes and sometimes chicken breasts are cooked too tough. Resident 3 further stated there are not enough food for diabetics or people with special diets. Lastly, Resident 3 stated that the Resident Council has submitted these complaints to management and does not get responses back.On June 22, 2016, CS sampled a meal at the facility and it was barely palatable. Food was cold and meat was tough; portion size was of the food was adequate though.On July 16, 2016, CS interviewed Resident 4 who stated the dining room only had 1 server today; Resident 4 stated they waited 30 minutes for service. On July 16, 2016, CS interviewed Staff 4 who stated the facility has designated staff to communicate special diets to the chef.On August 2, 2016, CS interviewed Resident 6 who stated the food is palatable and portion sizes are good.On August 10, 2016, CS interviewed Resident 7 who stated the food is getting much better; the Mexican dish today was not too spicy and very tasty.On August 10, 2016, CS sampled a meal at the facility and it tasted very good. The portion size was of the food was more than adequate.
